Identity Verification for Payers and Guests

The optional ID verification add-on lets your staff confirm that the person paying, or staying when that is someone different from the payer, is who they say they are, before money moves or a card gets stored. It is built on Stripe Identity: the person completes a secure, Stripe-hosted check, usually a photo of their ID plus a selfie, and Stripe matches them.

What it costs

ID verification is a Pro or Enterprise add-on, enabled per business. Each verification is billed to your business as a per-verification usage fee, whether the check passes or fails. Canceled checks are never billed, and reusing a prior verification (see below) costs nothing. The exact per-verification price is shown before you enable the add-on.

Requirements

Your plan must be Pro or Enterprise.
Your business must have a connected payment provider (Stripe or Square; both support the add-on).
An owner or super user enables the add-on in Settings, Business profile, with a price confirmation dialog.
The person being verified needs a first and last name on file (you can record these when creating the folio).

How a verification works

On any folio, staff see an “Identity verification” panel. They click “Request ID verification”. If the folio’s guest is not the same as the payer, they can also check “Also verify guest” in the same action.
Each subject with an email on file receives an email with a secure link to Stripe’s hosted verification flow. If a subject has no email, staff can share the hosted link directly.
The subject completes the check (usually document photo plus selfie match) on Stripe’s page. No account or app is needed.
Folio Anywhere receives the result. Staff see the latest status on the folio: Not requested, Pending, Verified, Failed, or Canceled, along with the verified name, document type, and issuing country when a check passes.

Reusing a prior verification

If the same payer or guest was already verified at your business, the panel offers “Reuse (no charge)” so you don’t pay for, or resubject them to, a fresh check. Reuse is staff-opted-in and is offered for up to 365 days after the original verification. It is scoped to your business only, so a verification done for another business cannot be reused.

Viewing the ID

An owner or super user can open “View ID photo” for a verified or failed check. The photo is streamed directly from Stripe through a link that expires after 30 seconds, and Folio Anywhere never stores or views the document or selfie images. The link is unavailable after about 48 hours or once the add-on is turned off.

Privacy

Folio Anywhere never receives, views, or stores the ID document or selfie images: those stay with Stripe under its own retention policy. We store only a limited summary of the result: the verified name, document type, issuing country, and whether the check passed. See the Privacy Policy for details.
